"We are in the business of creating success stories," that, says owner Greg Plante, is the philosophy behind his company, Imaginative Imaging. He also likes to call his business a "working model of what a client can expect." Seven years ago Greg took an idea he had for a motorcycle calendar to graphic designer Sarah Mitchell. He knew that the marriage of his photos with good design would be successful. "The two go hand in hand," he says. "Design fails when you have lousy images." With the successful sales of that calendar, Greg knew he was on to something. Though the people closest to him thought it was a crazy idea, he quit his job in the tooling industry and started Imaginative Imaging in 2005.

At first, his company offered photography, photo development and restoration but seven to eight months into his fledgling business, he noticed how digital technology was really changing the photography industry. He knew that to survive, he had to redefine his business and that the success of his company depended on building a strong brand. Greg believes that branding equals intention and the process of branding a company identifies its direction. "If you are in business and don't know why, you are just existing."

Incorporating graphic design into his business, along with integrating marketing and branding to their services, moved Imaginative Imaging from being solely photo driven to the creative incubator it is today.

Imaginative Imaging takes what it learned through branding itself and uses that practical experience to help other companies with their branding. Through their experience of growing and developing their business they have discovered their purpose: helping clients address the challenges and obstacles in their own business development and working with them to find solutions. "What we find rewarding is doing for other businesses what we did for ourselves."

As his business has grown, Greg has learned. He says, "The challenge in growing a business is managing that growth. Sometimes you make mistakes, but you learn from them. It's the lessons you learn from those mistakes that creates character and strength that helps you to be successful."

"Unless you are in business yourself, you don't know what a business owner goes through," says Greg. "Sometimes they are so close to their business that they can't see the obvious things that can be done to improve and be more successful." That's where Greg and his team can be the objective voice that offers constructive advice. This business mentorship aspect of Imaginative Imaging's business model is what has led them to have a very close rapport with their clients.

Greg acknowledges that, "Just as you should feel comfortable in the clothes you wear, you should feel comfortable in the clothes of your brand. But your clothes should appeal to your target market."
